A Sewing Day

It was a rainy day, so I sewed most of it. Between my shoulder blades started hurting, so I knew it was time to take a break. I did some laundry, but by the time it was ready to go out on the line, it was raining. So, I hung clothes out in the rain. LOL I figured another rinse wouldn't hurt them. The sun did come out for a bit this afternoon, so they were able to dry. I have a front loader washing machine, so things are almost dry when they come out of it.

Anyway, I have the center done on the Carpenter's Star. I have never worked with HST's (half square triangles) this big. They were 6 1/2" square. These big pieces made it sew up quickly. I am actually thinking about making another Carpenter's Star in blues for my mom. I think she would like it.  Here is the center.
I think there is enough contrast between the fabrics. The pattern called for using 8 fat quarters, but I chose to use 4 half-yard pieces. I like it. I definitely had to keep the pattern layout diagram close by. It was really easy to get those HST's turned around the wrong way. I became reacquainted with my my ripper today. LOL

I started out by drawing the sewing lines for the HST's. Then I sewed on each line. As you can see, my helper was on the job. LOL
Then I cut between the two seams, to create 2 HST's from each square.
Here they are all pressed and ready to trim. I pressed to the darker fabric.
All trimmed and ready to lay out. I dislike trimming, but these weren't too bad. I made them with my June Tailor ruler that is especially for making HST's.
Here is another shot of the center. What do you think?
I still have 4 borders to put on it. With all these borders, it is supposed to measure 70" square. I'm not sure how I will quilt this, but there will be plenty of space for some fancy quilting if I want. Any ideas? I may work on it some more tomorrow, if my upper back cooperates.

Everyone have a blessed Sunday. Thank you for visiting.

What a GREAT quilt top!!! I'm not good at figuring out how to quilt things, so I can't help you with any suggestions but I"m sure there will be others here with terrific ideas about that.

It is so pretty! I really like the contrast in the colors. It made my eyes find optical illusions. :)

I love it!! I will have to go back and look at the pattern anme again. I wonder if I will find it in Galena?
70 wide is much larger than I thought it would be. I assumed it was a wallhanging.....which would be easy to adapt by just making smaller triangles.
Love it! I am with Crispy....feathers.
