Daisy Star is done!

It got cold last night. We had 20* this morning at 7 a.m. I told Kevin I think that is enough of winter. Now we can go back to 70*. LOL I wish. It is about 34* now, so I doubt that it will get above 40* today. The wind is brisk too, so I plan to stay in the house today. Country Mart has a good sale this week, so Kevin told me to go stock up on some stuff. Good thing I went today, because they were already getting low on some things and were completely out of the $1.98 butter. Bummer. I did end up with some butter at Green Hills for $2.29. That isn't too bad. I now have everything we need for our Thanksgiving dinner.

I went to the doctor yesterday for my 3 month check-up. Now I am waiting to hear the results of the blood work. She had to stick me twice to get the blood. She noted on my chart that I am hard to get blood out of. (grin) I also decided to get a flu shot. I had never had one before, but had a bad case of flu last winter. I don't want a repeat of that. So today my arm is sore and I am stuffy and congested. Not blaming the flu shot, but I was perfectly fine before I got it.

I have been working hard on Christmas gifts. Of course, I am not where I hoped to be by this time of the month, but I am chugging along. Last night I put together the cutest little tree block quilt from this issue of McCall's Quick Quilts. I really love it. I may machine quilt it today, since time is escaping me. Here is the tree quilt.
Isn't this cute? I may even go by Hobby Lobby this weekend and see if I can find some mini-ornaments to decorate it.  I tried not to have any alike pieces beside each other, but after ripping out a couple of times decided this was good enough.
I also finished sewing the binding on the Daisy Star. I am glad to have it done. I think I will give it to Hazel for Christmas. She doesn't read my blog, so I can safely share it on here.  I laid it out on our deck since Kevin wasn't home to hold it up for me.
I'll share a couple more shots of it.  The little spot in the lower right corner above is a leaf. (grin)
Here is the back of it. I used fabrics leftover from the front to give it a scrappy binding.

Well, I'd better get back to work on gifts. Kevin has all of next week off, so I'm not sure how much I will get done. I need to have hand projects ready because he likes me to sit and watch tv with him. (grin) Thank you for visiting and please come again. Have a wonderful day.

Daisy Star is a flimsy!

Good evening everyone,

I just spent about 1 1/2 hours talking to a very good friend. She reminded me that I haven't posted a blog in a while, so I figured I'd better get with it before I forget all I wanted to post. LOL

Kevin and I had a stomach bug a couple of weeks ago. That really put both of us out of commission for a while. In fact, we both pretty much stayed in bed for 2 days. That is unheard of for us. Thankfully, we are both right as rain now. (grin) Speaking of rain....we have had a lot of it. Hard to believe that we are on the last half of May. It has been cold and rainy all month. Still no garden planted, but what would be the use? Mom has seeds planted, but says they are not coming up. I hear that it may get up to 75* tomorrow with sunshine. I may just sit outside all afternoon. LOL

I finished sewing the borders on to the Daisy Star quilt this weekend. I think it turned out pretty good.
I had Kevin hold it up for me so I could get a picture. Now it joins my stash of unquilted tops. I am now trying to get Double Delight put together. It was a Bonnie Hunter mystery a year ago. Lots of little pieces, so I work on it, then put it up, but I really do want to finish it. I am also spending my evenings doing some redwork. Sometimes that is so peaceful and relaxing for me. Also kind of a no brainer. Just follow the lines. Look at this cute little saying. I love this.
I also finished this 'honey' project.
I also finished this 'primitive friends' redwork this past weekend. It was a busy weekend, craftwise.
I love to take these little redwork projects and make small wall quilts out of them. I use the redwork as a center of the quilt, then build blocks or strips around them. They are a breeze to quilt up and I can use from my scrap bins. These make great little gifts. I have several ready, now, just waiting on me to get creative and come up with the rest of the quilts .

I thank you all for visiting. I know I have been a bad blogger, but sometimes I am just not in the mood to write anything. In those instances, you probably would not want to read what I write. LOL Everyone have a great day. I will try to do better.

202 HST's Later.....

Hello,

I have been busy working on my Daisy Star. I have worked for a few hours every day this week. Those HST's (half square triangles) are really time consuming for me. I do like the way Judy has you make them a little bigger and trim them down. It does take longer and is another step, but mine are much more accurate. Here is what a pile of 202 HST's looks like. LOL
I use a tip I learned from Bonnie Hunter and pin them together in groups of 10. Makes it much easier to keep track of. These are trimmings from 202 HST's.
I have had quite the struggle with Callie and my cutting mat. She insists on helping. LOL I must have put her down at least 8 times, then just gave up. LOL So I work around a big fluffy cat. I have to bribe her with treats to get a little free time for picture taking. I know, I am a pushover where my baby is concerned. Now that I have all of those HST's done, it is on to making blocks. There are 3 different blocks in this quilt, so I made one of each to make sure everything is going together right. Whew! It is. LOL
 Block A
Block B
Block C
Tomorrow I'm ready to start putting the blocks together. It should go pretty quickly now. I am enjoying this quilt, I only work with my sewing machine for a couple of hours a day. I thought that might keep me from burning out again. I finished quilting Birds and Blooms, but haven't gotten a picture yet. I have 3 projects that are now waiting for bindings. I found a scrap baby quilt that I pieced last summer. I have been quilting very simple lines in it while watching tv. I am enjoying that as well. I think I am officially out of my slump. LOL

It is windy here today and supposed to be worse tomorrow. Kevin says he wants to get some garden space tilled tomorrow. So maybe we will finally get some garden planted. (grin) Supposed to be severe storms coming in Friday. Hmm, that is my grocery day. Figures! I may postpone errand day. I hate driving in storms.

Well, my baby quilt is calling my name, so I'd better get with it. Thank you for visiting. Have a great evening.

I Am Starting a New Project!

Hello,

I tried to do this post on Friday, but for some reason every time I tried to load a picture, it failed. So I gave up. I am going to try again today. Kevin sent me fabric shopping on Friday. He said that always cheers me up. LOL I decided to do a Judy Laquidara project called Daisy Stars.I took my printed off pattern with me and pretty much picked fabric that matched Judy's. I liked her choices. She has great taste. Why mess with what works? LOL I bought this fabric at Wal Mart. Some don't like Wal Mart fabrics, but as long as I watch what I am getting, I have no problems with it. I don't have a lot of choice around here. The fabric cutting lady told me that they would stop selling fabric next year. Bummer! That just leaves JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby to buy fabric in my area.

Here is the pattern, Daisy Star, that I am using.
Isn't it cute? I don't have any plans for this quilt, just decided to make it for fun. Here is the fabric that I picked.
I only bought one extra fabric that I have no plans for, so it goes in the stash. I was so proud of myself for not buying lots of extra, but couldn't resist this one. It is so pretty.
It has been over 4 months since I have used my cutting mat. Callie has a thing about laying on it, encouraging me as I cut and plan blocks. I am thinking she has missed this quality time with her 'mom'. LOL As soon as I laid the fabric on the cutting mat to take pictures, she jumped right up there. Look how she is smiling. She is ready to help 'mom' again. LOL

I have the fabric all ready to start cutting. Now, I am going to get off here, put a new blade in my rotary cutter and get with it. It has rained here since Thursday evening, so I don't even have to feel guilty about anything. Nothing we could do outside anyway. I have things cooked up in the fridge for us to eat, so what is stopping me? LOL See you all later. Thanks for visiting and have a lovely Sunday.
