Our weekends are usually pretty laid back since the kids have all moved out. On Saturdays I head to St. Joe to get groceries, do laundry, and run any errands I need to do. By the time I get home, I am usually beat. LOL So all I do is put stuff away, then the rest of the day is mine to relax. (grin)
Sundays mornings were always spent with MIL. Since she has been gone, we are kind of lost on Sundays. So we piddled for a while in the shop. Kevin has been cleaning it and I burn the nasty stuff he is digging out of it. Now why did we collect 3 trash barrels full of newspapers? LOL We can neither one remember the reasoning for it. LOL Also, never let those feed bags pile up. I bet we burned over a hundred feed sacks today. From now on when I empty a bag in the cans, I will take that bag right over to the burn barrel. We keep all of our feed in metal trash cans. These work so good to keep moisture and rodents out of that expensive feed. I have four of them lined up: first the duck food, then the chick grower, the layer, and last the rabbit food. I took my permanent marker down and wrote on the lids. Kevin moved them around while I was gone. Yikes! Thankfully I could tell which feed went to which animals. LOL Since Kevin never feeds them, if he ever needs to for some reason, he will need to know what to feed who. Right? LOL
Yesterday I picked up 2 beef roasts and a package of skinless, boneless chicken breasts. This morning we drug out our meat grinder and ground all this up. Then I made patties and Kevin grilled 18 hamburgers, 13 chicken burgers, and 4 packages of hot dogs. We had a wonderful meal for dinner and will have for supper. After everything cooled down, we vacuum sealed all the extra for the freezer. This way any time we want some BBQ, all I have to do is thaw it out.
I have been hard at work on the log cabin quilt for my niece Hayley. She is getting married on Aug. 16th of this year. Yikes! I now have all of the blocks done, but still have to sew them together. I plan to hand quilt this, but now I wonder if I can realistically expect to have it done in time. I have so much else to do this summer. Why did I wait so long to get started on this? Anyway, here are a few of the blocks. I am using red for the center and creams and earth colors for the logs.
Not a very good picture, but best I could get.
We got another 7/10 inch of rain yesterday. Oh my goodness, the garden is a weedy mess. As soon as it dries out, I will need to spend a couple of hours every morning weeding. We are also trying to build a run for the growing chicks and the ducks. The yard needs mowed again. The chores around here in the summer are never ending. LOL I will soon be canning, freezing, and dehydrating. Looks like I will have to put in some late nights if I even want to attempt to get this done in time. The plan is just plain straight quilting lines in the logs.
Kevin still thinks Dani is a boy. I hope he is right. Dani was a naughty boy this morning. He found a place where I had not put wire in the trusses between his and Copper's cage. Well, he started jumping over this and into her cage. I took him out 4 times before I figured out where he was getting through. It is fixed now and Dani is pouting. LOL
We talked about the Cornish Cross chickens, but decided to just go with regular chickens. So I drug my incubator out and set it up. I have not used it for over 10 years, so didn't have high hopes of a good hatch. I also over crowded the eggs and the power was off for 2.5 hours about half way through the hatch.
Even against all those odds, I still had 36 out of 50 eggs hatch. That is a 75% hatch and considered very good! This was the first bunch to hatch out.
As soon as they were completely dry and fluffy, I took them down to the brooder house. These are from my chicks that hatched out last summer. Something got into my older flock and killed all by 2. So I decided to order more layers. I made the order out back in January before we even thought of hatching some of our own chickens out. So I had 27 chicks show up from www.cacklehatchery.com about the same time that these were hatching out.
These are 5 Australorp pullets, 5 Rhode Island Red pullets, 5 straight run Barred Rocks, 5 sr New Hampshires, and 5 sr Welsummers. They also sent me 2 extra chicks, but I don't remember which breed had extra. I took them down and added them to the brooder with the chicks I had hatched. No problems and as of now, I have not lost any of them.
They are now about 2.5 weeks old and almost feathered out. I plan to move them into the other side of the shed the ducks are in next week as we have more eggs due to hatch out. I know it will take about 3 months to grow these breeds out, but I think it will be worth it. I hope to have a 100 to put in the freezer. Now I just need to decide what breed rooster to keep, barred rock, new hampshire, or welsummer. I might just keep one of each and see how they do. I won't tolerate a mean rooster.
This was taken about a week ago. They have grown a lot since then. Well, I am off to try to kill some weeds. We have had several inches of rain in the past week and expecting more tomorrow, so I need to try to get ahead of the weeds. You all have a great day.
I had terrible luck with rabbits a couple of years ago. I lost both does and their whole litters the first time they gave birth. That was the year of the heat wave. The temps jumped to over 100* right around the time they were due. That about crushed me. I decided rabbits were not for me. I kept my buck, Sammy as a pet. Then when the family who took our last ducks came, their young son wanted Sammy. So Kevin gave him to this boy. I was gone that day and was a bit taken aback when I got home, but it was for the best. The boy had 2 does and no bucks. Sammy was lonely.
Then this spring, I started thinking about rabbits again. I talked to Kevin and he said it would be my project. Since I am the one who takes care of all the animals around here, I already figured that. (grin) So I did lots of reading and asking around about someone local raising rabbits. I found out that a man that Kevin went to school with who lives about 5 miles away raised rabbits. I talked to him and decided to visit his rabbitry. He is just a backyard rabbit raiser, but he had some nice looking buns. I had planned to buy three 8 week old rabbits (2 does and a buck), but when I got there he and his wife had talked it over. They said they would sell me two bred does for the same price. OK.
This is Penny. She is a bit over a year old and was bred for her 3rd litter.

She had her babies on May 30th. I have not bothered them yet except to make sure none were dead, so I don't even know how many she has, but I know they are black. I took a picture, but it is not very good. You might be able to make out a couple of babies. Penny is a wonderful mama. I can hardly wait till they get their eyes open and start hopping around.
I also bought Copper. She has been a trouble maker, so I am not real fond of her. She was 6 months old when I got her and he put her in with his registered California buck. I don't think it took because she should have been due Monday or Tuesday. Oh well, it figures she would be the contrary one. Here she is in her nest box, but I think she was just trying to fool me. LOL She really is pretty, just onery!

This is Dano. It was supposed to be my buck. The problem is I think Dano is a Dani, yep a girl! The guy I got him/her from said he thought it was a male. Kevin half heartedly looked and said it was probably a male. I checked again last week. I really think I have another doe. Time will tell I guess. I love this rabbit, so it is not going anywhere! He/She was 8 weeks old when I got him. He is now about 12 weeks old. His/her mama is a registered New Zealand and the father a registered California. He/she was actually raised by Penny. His/her mama had 11 babies, so Anthony fostered one out to Penny. It says something about Penny that she would raise a bunny that was not hers. One of the reasons I love her so.

So if Dano/Dani is a girl, I need to find another buck. I will also need to build another hutch as mine is full. That made Kevin's day. LOL NOT! We did some work on our hutch before we got these. Kevin made some trusses and put a better roof on it. It gives them more shade and more room to stand up in. I also repainted it a sage green instead of rust red.

The blocks are so that I can stand on them to pet my bunnies. (grin) I am enjoying the rabbits. You all have a great day.
We are in a moderate risk for severe weather later on. We can use the rain, but I will pass on the severe weather. I have not been into our cellar in several years. I am thinking I would not have a good time in there if we get a tornado warning. We plan to work on the cellar, but have not had time yet this spring.
My ducklings came to the post office today. I picked them up early this morning. They are so stinking cute. I know they are messy, but their personalities make up for it. LOL Here they are before I took them out of their shipping box.

I gave my older ducks away last fall. They were so nervous and ran every time they saw me. I did research and decided to try some different breeds that are supposed to be calm and good layers. I chose Ancona, Cayuga, Welsh Harlequin, and Indian Runners. Now I know the runners are known as a bit nervous, but they just make me smile. I have already gotten a good laugh out of watching them 'run' across their shed. LOL

I was a bit nervous, myself, on approaching Kevin with the idea of getting more ducks. After all, I had given away ducks a few months ago that we had quite a bit of money wrapped up in. But after I explained my reasoning to him, he was OK with it. (Now if I ever give these away, I will never bring up ducks again. LOL ) I ordered these from www.cacklehatchery.com I ordered them on May 20th and asked that they be shipped on June 2nd or ASAP. I never expected them to ship that quickly, but they did. We have had wonderful luck with Cackle Hatchery. They have good stock, always send extra, and their customer service is outstanding. Also, they are located in Lebanon, MO, so I am doing business with a Missouri company. (grin)

I may not get a lot done, because I just keep finding myself down at their shed. LOL I have 4 Cayuga (black) 5 Ancona (spotted), 3 Indian Runners (orange marker on heads) and 4 Welsh Harlequin. I think they are just adorable!
We are raising lots of chicks this year, but I will tell more about that in the next post. I needed more space, so my hubby helped me build a wall of wire to divide this shed into 2 pens. He helped me build the gate and get the framing in. I put all the wire on.

I think it turned out pretty good. I put double wire on the bottom because that area will be used harder. I took a picture of the gate, but I think it is sideways. I will try to post it anyway. LOL

Woohoo, I figured out how to turn it right. I also put double wire on the gate. I hope to take regular pictures of my ducklings to keep a record of them. I really only wanted about 6, but the hatchery minimum is 15. I know I will not keep more than a couple of drakes. Too hard on the hens when there are several drakes. Time will tell how many I keep because I am sure I will keep all the hens. Have a good one.
I have decided to blog again. I love comments, but this is about me having a place to keep track of things and maybe vent once in a while. LOL May not be a lot of pictures of crafts since I am so busy outside right now. It will be what it will be. ;)
First, the sad news is MIL passed on March 10th. She was ready to go. She is in no more pain now. We miss her, but know she is in a better place.
We struggled a lot this spring. We almost threw in the towel and just moved to town. It was a rough year. We lost all our garden last summer, had a horrible winter, then MIL getting sick and passing. Yep, stressful times. We sat down and talked about what we wanted to do. Things would be much easier for us in town, but I am not ready to give up on our little homestead just yet and I don't think Kevin is either, so we decided to stay and see what happens.
We planted several dwarf fruit trees and a standard apple given in memory to MIL. We also planted asparagus and blueberries. Kind of hard to see, but this is our blueberry patch. We have 8 planted.

I also planted some flowers. They are not blooming yet, but are green. Mostly lilies and well, I can't remember the others, but they are all perennial. LOL Most of the asparagus came up.
The potatoes are looking wonderful. We planted 50 lbs of red Pontiac and 5 lbs of purple potatoes. We both spent our Saturday evening picking potato bug off the potatoes, not a fun job, but necessary when you don't want to use pesticides.

I planted 63 tomatoes, but we had lots of wind and some really cold temps on May 15th-17th, so we lost a few. We probably have at least 55 left. You can see the pole beans behind them and another patch of tomatoes on past the blueberries. Just on the other side of the pole beans are okra. It really needs weeded, but was not up enough to mess with. After the 1 inch of rain we got last night, they will really need weeded.

I planted about 9 different kinds of beans. I love beans and have missed my canned beans. Hope to remedy that this summer.

I also planted lots of peppers and eggplants. I think I have 3 different varieties of eggplant and about 6 varieties of peppers including hot ones. We love homemade salsa!

This is the cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts, fava beans, onions and garlic.

As you can see, as soon as it dries out, I will be very busy hoeing and pulling weeds. I will get a picture after it is all weeded.
I also planted 2 long hills of watermelon, muskmelon, zucchini, cucumbers, spaghetti squash, and pumpkins. They are just coming up good.

Just so you know I haven't been completely slacking in the crafting department, I finished this for Kevin's Aunt Joan's 80th birthday. She loved it.

I believe that is enough for today. I have baby chicks and have ducklings coming tomorrow. More later. Anyone reading, have a wonderful day!
It has been a long, long time since I did a blog post. Many things have happened since last June. LOL To Start with my laptop gave up in Jan. So I got a new one, but it has Windows 8. Boy! Have I struggled with this. After using it for about 6 weeks now, I think I am doing pretty good. Now if I can just figure out how to post pictures. LOL Actually, I just click on the desktop app and use it like Windows 7. (grin) Working so far. So bear with me as I attempt a blog post after so many months and on a new laptop.
This year has been a very rough year. Our winter has been hideous. We just had another snow storm last night. The wind is howling right now, but it is up to 3* right now. I am so ready for spring. These frigid temps and snow, then mud is really getting to me. I am ready to play in the garden.
Kevin's mom is in the nursing home. She started getting worse about a month ago. It is not good. We went to see her yesterday. It was rough. She is in so much pain. They called hospice in last week and they are giving her morphine and any other pain management measures that they can. It works sometimes, and not sometimes. I feel so bad for this sweet lady who has been in my life for over 37 years. Please pray for pain relief for Fern.
We lost our old beagle, Thunder, a couple of weeks ago. She would have been 17 later this year. She lived a long and happy life here on our little farm. She was even chasing rabbits last summer. She was slowing down so much and starting to have trouble getting up and down. I am glad she passed peacefully without us having to make that call.
I have been completely out of the sewing and quilting mood for a month or so now. I don't think I have even turned my sewing machine on since Christmas. With all that is going on, I feel like I am in limbo. I have some projects in mind, but just can't seem to start them. I have been hand quilting on my Scrappy 36 Patch quilt for a few months now. I think I have about 12 blocks out of 42 left to quilt. I would like to get this one done to put on our bed this spring.
We have big plans for the garden this spring. I have already ordered and received my heirloom seeds from www.rareseeds,com , Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. Yesterday I bought jar lids. I plan to buy some every grocery shopping day. Since they are so expensive I figured I'd buy 10 boxes every other week. We also ordered a mini-orchard, 2 apple trees, 2 pear trees, and 2 plum trees, all dwarf. I ordered some perennial flower bulbs and some flower seeds. We need a little color too. (grin) I have 3 herb books on the way to me. I want to plant and maintain a medicinal herb garden. So we have lots of plans. Just praying the neighbors will not spray their fields on a windy day. Not sure I could handle losing everything again.
On the health front, we have mostly given up eating any processed foods. My hubby has lost over 60 lbs doing this. Me, not so much, but I am a stress eater and we have had stress a plenty this winter. It was hard for me to clean out the fridge and throw out everything that had nasty stuff in it or had GMOs in them. Even my Lipton green tea with honey was questionable. So now I drink organic green tea. Very bland, but I am getting used to it.
Today is my birthday, so I decided what better day to restart my blog. Mom gave me money to get my hair cut for my birthday, so I did it. Although, I am sure this is not what mom had in mind. LOL I have had various versions of a pixie hair cut for about 20 years now. I wanted something different. I have been growing my hair out ever since last Sept. so it was getting pretty long, for me. LOL So I am attempting to grow my hair out to about shoulder length. I had my stylist trim things up into as close to a bob as she could get. LOL We shall see. Once the summer heat hits, I may be going back for another short pixie cut. LOL First picture is before haircut, second after.
Ok, I decided to go ahead and post a picture of my face. I am not a makeup sort of gal, so it is what it is. This is the first time I have had bangs that I did not comb to the side in many, many years. Still trying to decide whether I kike them or not. (grin)

Kevin asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I asked for a crock to make kraut and dill pickles in. So this is what he ordered for me. It is an Ohio Stoneware 3 gallon crock.
Now on to a bit of crafty. I have plans to make a log cabin quilt for my niece who will be getting married in late summer. These are the fabric I have picked out.

I found a picture of my fabric that is a little closer to real life but without the red.

Not a great picture I am afraid, but the light makes things washed out. It is basically browns, greens, and creams with a red for the center blocks. These are all washed and ready to go. Just need to cut and sew. Maybe this week.
Well, I guess this is enough for my first blog of the year. I will see how things go. I hope to continue the blog. If warm weather ever gets here, it will be full of green things growing, or at least I hope so. LOL Anyone reading this, have a great day.
Hard to believe the 4th is next week. To me once the 4th is over, summer just flies by. This summer has been just the opposite of last summer. It has been cool and wet. Last summer was a drought and about a month of over 100* temps. It was 97* one day last week, but has cooled down again. It was just in the 70s today. I am perfectly ok with a cooler summer. LOL

Kevin went on a grilling mania today. (grin) He grilled hamburgers, hotdogs, ring bologna, pork chops, pork ribs, and chicken. I have everything in the fridge right now. Tomorrow, I will divide the meat into meal size portions and freeze it. Shouldn't need to cook any meat for a while. We love our new grill. I can see us getting lots of use out of it.

I worked on a few projects last week. I decided to treat myself and sew up a small project that I have had the fabric pulled for over a year. I am sorry I can't give credit for this. When I printed it off, my printer was running out of ink and I cannot read the site address. I think it turned out cute.

I still need to machine applique around it. I fused it on with wonder under. So if anyone reading this recognizes this design, please let me know so I can give credit where credit is due.

I also got the center done on my Trip Around the World quilt. I just need to put borders on and it will be a flimsy. I already know what I am doing for the borders. Just a matter of getting it done.
My mama hen ended up with 4 baby ducklings. They follow her everywhere. She won't even look at any of the chicks that hatched out under the other hens. She knows what her adopted babies look like and won't give them up. I snapped this today while I was choring.

If you look closely, you can see all 4 ducklings to the right of her. Funny story. Tonight when I went down to lock everything up, I noticed the hen and ducklings were not in the duck shed. She was sitting outside the hen house. Couldn't leave her out there. Something would eat them. So I chased her into the chicken house. I thought I counted all 4 ducks following her, but after I got everything situated, I only saw 3 ducks with her. I went back outside and started looking for the other little fellow. Then I decided to go back and count again. This time one of the hens with chicks stood up to move around. That crazy little duck ran out from under her. LOL See, even the ducks are confused. LOL

We have at least 20 baby chicks hatched out from 4 barred rocks. It is like a free for all in there. At first, 2 of the hens had 4 babies each and one hen had at least 12. The last hen decided to sit on an empty nest. (eye roll here) Now it is so cute to watch. The little chicks just flit from one mama to another. I think they think all these are their mamas. LOL Here are some of the chicks with 2 of the mamas.
Here is the only survivor of the first barred rock that hatched out in May. She hatched out 6, but only 4 survived the first day. After that, I have no idea what happened to the other 3. I am hoping these ladies will be better mamas. What do you think? Roo or pullet? I am sure hoping for pullet, but think it is probably a roo. What do you think Paula? It is half barred rock and half buff orpington.
I still have one duck sitting on a nest. Poor little Buddy found out the hard way to stay away from her nest. We heard a loud commotion. She nailed Bud good. I doubt that he will go near there again. LOL Poor little guy. He has learned this year to stay away from the poultry. He got nailed by the first hen who hatched out as well. (grin)

Well, that is enough for tonight. Thank you for visiting. I am having fun with the poultry this year. Never had a year quite this exciting with poultry. Now when I had goats, it was always exciting around here, especially when they had babies. I miss my goats, but that is in the past. Everyone have a great Sunday!
The boss called us this morning, early. He was very apologetic. He talked to Kevin, then me, then Kevin again. I explained how all our seeds were heirloom and we were growing things organic. I think he understood how devastated we were to have this happen. He wanted to make things right by us and offered us a very fair compensation. It will cover our costs plus buy us veggies for the year. He told us what was sprayed. It is not supposed to harm the soil, but we will not be planting in this area for at least a couple of years. We will leave it fallow and move further north to plant next year. It is protected from the southwest by a big bank and there are not weeds dying in this area, so I am satisfied that it is safe. We are fortunate to have enough land to be able to move our garden. We are even talking about making some raised beds in this area. We have been wanting to try them. Seems like a good time to do it. I am now getting excited about the possibilities for our 2014 garden. We have put the heartbreak of our 2013 garden behind us. It was an accident. They should not have been spraying in the wind, but someone mistakenly made the wrong call on that. We hold no hard feelings against them. I made sure that the man doing the spraying would not suffer any consequences. After all, he was just doing his job. His boss promised me that nothing would be held against this man. So, though we are still sad, we are no longer angry. It happened, we are being compensated, we have forgiven and are moving on. Kevin mowed the garden off this morning. We will buy our veggies from the local Farmers' Market this summer.
Now on to happier subjects. LOL Do you remember me telling you about the battle between the barred rock hen and the rouen duck over the duck's nest? Well, I finally decided to let them fight it out. Tonight I found that the winner now has at least 2 ducklings under her. Here is the winner....

LOL Kevin was upset that she wouldn't be able to properly teach the ducklings how to survive. I then had to remind him that I raised all our ducks in the brooder house last year. I didn't teach them anything. It is instinct. LOL I will try to check under her tomorrow. She is meaner than a rattlesnake, so I decided to leave her alone tonight. You can see one little duckling out in front and if you look closely to the right, under the edge of the hen you can just see a little bill poking out. (grin) I feel kind of sorry for the Rouen duck. She sat on this nest for 3 weeks. Then the barred rock chases her off, sits on the nest for a week and hatches the babies. I guess that's life. The duck doesn't seem to care any more. LOL

Our 36th anniversary is coming up in July. We decided to treat ourselves to something we have wanted for a while. We have a Weber charcoal grill, but I hate starting the charcoal. I wanted something I could turn on and cook my meat in a few minutes. LOL I am spoiled that way. (wink) So we bought this....

Kevin put it together today while I was grocery shopping. We still need to put the little feet under it, hence the boards. LOL We used it tonight and loved it. I am so glad we bought this. I can see us cooking all of our meat on it this summer and maybe even into the winter.
Ok, no one tell Kevin that I posted a picture of him on my blog. Ok? LOL Look how great these burgers and hot dogs look.
They were yummy too!

I have the center of my Trip Around the World quilt top put together. Now I need to decide what I want to do for the borders. Probably won't ever make another one of these. It is very easy to get the blocks turned around. I had it together and noticed 2 blocks turned the wrong way. More ripping. LOL I will try to get a picture of it next week.

That is it for me tonight. Thanks for visiting. Have a great Sunday tomorrow!
It was the best garden we have had in years. I worked so hard in it and was so proud of it. You will notice I am using past tense. Last Saturday the wind was blowing hard from the southwest. Our neighbor across the road hired a company to spray his beans. My thoughts, they should not have been spraying during a strong wind. Well, they did. Then we had rain twice, so I couldn't get out into the garden to work. Last night I decided to go cut some broccoli and do some hoeing. You can imagine my shock when I found this....
I could go on and on, but you get it. Spray drift killed our entire garden. Even the sweet corn has spots on it. We contacted the company who did the spraying and their rep came out to see the damage. He said that yes it was spray drift. Well, duh!!!! He is on his way to talk to his boss to see what they will do about this. It did not kill the beans. He pointed that out to me, but I told him that was not the point. These are all heirloom seeds, grown organically. Now they have been contaminated. We will have to mow the whole garden off. We planted heirloom so we could avoid GMOs and also used no chemicals on the garden. I am pissed. (Please excuse my language as I do not normally talk like that, but that is the best word I can think to use.) This is just so heartbreaking. We not only have lots of money wrapped up into this garden, but hours and hours of work.

We also started an asparagus bed, strawberry bed, garlic bed, and blueberries. It looks like they were hit too. I am not sure if they will come out of it or not. I think it also got our grapes and all the black walnuts are falling off the tree prematurely. All the weeds around the duck shed and chicken coop are getting speckled so I know it drifted down there too. In other words, our whole place got hit. The really scary thing is that Kevin and I were out working in and around the garden the day he was spraying. That is why I was able to get pictures. I was taking pictures of the garden. I also snapped a couple of pictures of the sprayer. I let the rep know that I had pictures taken of the garden on Saturday just prior to spraying, the guy spraying, and pictures of my poor garden on Wednesday. My camera date stamps each picture. I think that got his attention. I also told him that I posted pictures on my blog of a great looking garden. Now was going to post pictures of a ruined garden.

I am sorry for the rant. Today is my feel sorry for myself day. I am comfort eating and will do some crafting. I can't stand to be outside and look across my garden. I get teary every time I think about it. I hope this doesn't happen to anybody else, because it just breaks your heart. I had such big plans for putting up lots of organic food for our winter. I got a few messes of spinach, some lettuce, and some peas. That is it! I thought we may be able to salvage the potatoes, but Kevin said anything that gets on the leaves will go down into the potatoes. We don't want to take the chance. (so sad) Well, I am off to sulk. Everyone have a great day. Thanks for visiting and putting up with my whining.
They can work it out themselves. I was worrying myself into a tizzy about everyone being in their own space. Nope, not going to worry any more. I will get what I get as far as babies this season.

Our garden this year looks so good compared to last year. Last year we were in severe drought. We had no rain from the first week in May through the end of summer. We also had over a month of 100* days. Our garden just dried up. We got very little from it. I supported the local Farmers' Market. LOL This year is so different. We have been getting lots of rain and it is so much cooler. You will just have to skip over the weeds. It has been too rainy to keep up. We have had rain since I took these pictures, too. LOL I will eventually get caught up, maybe. (grin) See the area to the right of the picture? I had to go to town and I asked Kevin to till me a spot alongside the peas for one of 2 more rows. Hmmm... came home to a spot about 50 feet long and about 25 feet wide. Yep, I am letting it go back into my lawn. LOL My hubby is the overkill king! Our garden....
Do you see that nasty row of grass on the left of the cabbage. That is my carrots. I think I counted 3 carrots that came up, so that is getting tilled out and a row of flowers planted. My okra and dry beans....
You can see the peas to the right of the okra. I am leaving what is left on them for seeds. I also have spinach , lettuce and radishes going to seed. We planted all heirloom seeds this year, so we should be able to save them. Zucchini....
I only planted 2 hills of zucchini, but should have plenty if the squash bugs don't find them. Looks like they really need weeded. Something new we are trying are teepee pole beans. Pole beans....

These are desperately needing weeded. Funny story about the teepee poles. I asked Kevin to help me pound them into the ground. They are bamboo that I picked up at Menards. The next thing I know, he shows up in the garden with the gas posthole digger. I know my mouth dropped open. Talk about overkill. LOL It drills an 8 inch hole. LOL Oh well, it worked and I filled the holes in and planted around the poles. LOL The peppers and eggplant....

The white flowers you see at the top of the picture are a row of radishes that Kevin planted. I about passed out when I found out he had planted a long, long row of radishes. No way we could eat that many. Sweet potatoes....
We also started an asparagus bed, strawberry bed, garlic bed, and blueberries. I just didn't get pictures of them. (grin) I hope you enjoyed the tour of our garden. I will be out there working in the morning if we don't get more rain. Thank you for visiting. Please come again and have a great day.
I have raised chickens for over 30 years and never had the problems of this year. LOL It seems like all my barred rocks have decided they want to be mamas. Ok, that is fine by me, but they all want to share the same nest.

I tried to check under them and they all bristled up and started growling. Hmmm, not sticking my hand in there. I figured it would be a group attack and I would pull back with a bloody arm. I have 6 barred rock hens and 2 buff orpingtons. Well, 5 bars and one buff are broody. That leaves me with 2 hens. One of them is a bar who already went broody and raised one chick. Of all the luck. It is another rooster. I was hoping for a pullet. Anyway, I think the hens steal all the eggs that are laid, so who knows what kind of mess they are setting on. (Big Sigh)

This isn't my only problem this year. I have a rouen duck who went broody about 3 weeks ago. I was so happy. She was so mean that I have left her alone. Yesterday when I peaked in to check, she was off her nest and a barred rock was setting on it. What?

I also have a khaki campbell setting in the corner. See her trying to protect her nest. Well, I wasn't sure what to do about this situation, so I asked Kevin. The rouen duck was mad as the dickens and being very vocal about it too, I might add.

Kevin got the bar off the nest so the rouen could go back. I chased the bar back into her coop and thought everything was ok. NOT! This morning, I decided to let the ducks out first so the rouen could get something to eat and drink and get back on her nest before I turned the chickens out. Somehow that bar figured out how to get out of her coop and dag gone it, she took over the nest again. Kevin caught her and locked her back in the chicken pen. You guessed it. About 1/2 hour later I checked. There she was again with a very upset Rouen pacing the shed. I chased her off again. (Another Big Sigh) Of course, she is back on the nest and I have given up. I guess she wants to be a mama of ducklings. I put another nest box right beside this one with some chicken eggs in it. I hope that one of them will just decide to set in the new box. I figure I could possibly end up with a mama chicken and ducklings and a mama duck and chicks. Never dull around here. LOL

Now on to the crafting front. I think I really have my mojo back I am working away on a bunch of projects that I had started and not finished. I am thinking about dedicating the rest of the year to getting things finished. I am on the last 2 blocks of Promises and Borders and Thoughts in Thread. I have half the blocks pieced for my TATW (trip around the world) quilt. I am ready to finish Hello Sun. I have more projects bouncing around in my head than I have time to work on. LOL I am also hand quilting Shadowy Stars. It was a quilt along of Judy Laquidara that I did back in 2010. Time to get it done. I am loving this quilt.

This is my hoop all ready for hand quilting. I am on block 4 so far.
Here is the first set of TATW blocks. They aren't hard, but you have to be on your toes to keep the squares in the right order. LOL My ripper has become my best friend. I am hoping my fabric choices will have enough contrast.
I quickly followed a tutorial for a sewing machine cover last week. It was so easy and made up in a couple of hours. I found the tutorial on Ros's blog. I used a charm pack that I bought on clearance from Connecting Threads a couple of years ago, left over batting and backing from mom's quilt for the lining and batting, and leftover binding from Kevin's lap quilt. So this cover probably cost me less than $2 and about 2 hours work. Doesn't get much better than that. LOL
Well, this is Monday and my normal big clean day on the house, so I need to get with it. I am going to do a bit more rearranging. Trying to utilize my space to the max. (grin) Thank you for visiting. Please come again.
I post and have every intention to keep posting. Then it has been over a month since I did. (big sigh) I will try to catch up with things here. I mainly keep my blog as a journal of my life.

A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to the Care facility that my MIL lives in for a tea. It was really nice. I was glad to be able to go and share this with her. Since she never had any daughters, I was happy to do this for her. She will be 84 in October. She can't walk any more, and has trouble talking since the stroke, but still does pretty good for all her ailments and age. My MIL Fern...
I started cutting on mom's Carpenter's Star quilt the last week in January. I finished it the second week in May. Mom's 75th birthday was yesterday. I delivered her quilt to her on Saturday. She was so tickled. Made my day. She is showing it to all her friends at the apartment complex. Bragging her daughter up. LOL
Mom had me take the first quilt I made her off her bed and put it on her couch. I think it looks nice on the couch. Brightens up the living room. I made this about 7 years ago. It was one of the first quilts I made. I am glad to see I have improved. LOL
Yesterday was spent in Kansas City with the grandchildren. Maddison wasn't able to be there, but the other 4 were. It was a combined party for Izabella and Noah. They are growing up so fast. Izzie just turned 5, Noah is 7, Ava is 7, and Ashton will soon be 10. Maddison will soon be 4. Just growing so fast. I don't have any babies any more.
Oops, I need to go back a bit. We had a snowstorm on May 2nd. That is pretty much unheard of in Missouri. It didn't last long. It was all melted the next day. I was concerned about my garden that you see in the below picture, but all my veggies came through fine. It has been a really weird spring. It might be near 90* one day and a high in the 30s the next.
Hubby replaced my blender that he killed with the coconut flour disaster. He also bought me a new counter oven. I love it. I don't like to use my big oven for just the 2 of us as it heats the house up so much. This is so much nicer.
I have started working on a hexie project. I have never worked with hexies before, so this has been fun. I am still cutting them out right now, but will soon be ready for basting them, then hand stitching them. I also have finished a couple of small projects and have a lap size quilt top that I sewed a few years ago about ready for hand quilting. I hope to work on some of these projects this afternoon, since it is way too wet to think about being outside. I am glad I went to the cemetery Saturday, cause it would be a mess today.

Well, I think that about catches me up for now. Thank you for visiting. Have a great day.
We went to visit MIL this morning. She was having a good day. That is always good news to us. We did some things around here when we got home. Kevin put a new motor on our old shredder. Now we just have to wait for fall to shred up the garden plants. It works, so he is happy. This is the second one of our machines that he has replaced the motor on this spring. We have an old Troy Horse tiller that we bought in 1999, just before Troy sold out to MTD. It has tilled miles and miles of garden for us. The motor quit a couple of years ago, so we have been using a front tine tiller and our little Mantis. One day while reading on Homesteading Today, I read the comments to a guy asking if he should repair his old tiller or just buy a new one. I told Kevin about this thread. He read it and then we decided to buy a new motor. It works so good that Kevin decided to buy another motor for the shredder. So now we are ready to work the land. LOL By the way, the tiller is still as awesome as I remembered. It does such a good job of tilling the soil. I have missed it. :)

Now I will share about last Sunday. I posted about this on Facebook, but decided to go ahead and share the story on my blog. As Bren said, someday my grandbabies might be reading this. (grin) I put a book on my Kindle that uses coconut flour in the recipes. Since coconut flour costs about $10 per pound, I asked Kevin if we could make our own flour. He researched and said yes. So I picked up a couple of coconuts for us to work up. Last Sunday was the start of a big sale at Joann's. I had mentioned this sale to him a few days earlier. After we got home from visiting with his mom, he encouraged me to go shopping at Joann's. (Yep, I should have known something was up. He actually remembered this! LOL) I called him from the parking lot just before starting for home. He asked me to pick up cheese cloth. OK, so I went back in the store and used another coupon to buy some cheese cloth. I love those coupons.
I got home and walked into the door to this horrible smell. Then I looked at my kitchen counter and almost fainted. It was quite a mess, so I ask, 'What you doing?' He replies, 'Working up your coconuts.' OK. 'Well what is that horrible smell?' I ask him. His very offhand reply, 'Oh, I think I burned up your blender.' OMG I was a good wife and said nothing. He was right. Blender is dead as a doornail. Then he told me he just had a couple more bowls to wash up and everything would be cleaned up for me. Another OMG! I had sticky coconut juice everywhere. His idea of clean and mine do not meet. LOL I was still a good wife and told him I would clean up. So I wiped down everything and swept the floor while he strained and got the ground coconut on the dehydrator.
The next day I used my Cuisinart mini grinder/chopper to grind the flour. I didn't want a repeat of the blender murder. All that work and we got just over 1/4 lb of flour. I will say, though, that this was about 3 or 4 cups of flour. It is light weight. I think I will just buy the coconut flour from now on. It would be cheaper. On the bright side, I am getting a new blender, just as soon as I decide which one I want. My old one was an Oster and I really liked it. I have always thought Oster appliances were pretty hard to kill, but not for my hubby. LOL I am actually leaning towards another Oster, that I just might hide when I leave the house. LOL Oh I forgot. He told me next time, he thought my juicer would work better. Hmmm, I don't think so! That juicer was expensive. Not sure I could remain a 'good wife' if I came home again to the horrible smell, with the words, 'Hon, I think I burned up your juicer.' LOL So I need to be careful about what I ask my hubby for. LOL He was trying to help, but he is kind of like Tim Allen from the old show 'Home Improvement'. Everything needs more power. LOL

Here is my coconut flour. I packed it down pretty tight to get it all in this container.

We also got a couple of quarts of coconut milk, so I guess that is another plus to the story. LOL
I am still plugging along on the hand quilting of mom's quilt. I am about 3/4 done with the center. I need to have it done by May 26th, so I think I can get it done. I will share a picture when I get it done. In case I haven't posted about it (my memory is horrible any more) I am making a Carpenter's Star quilt for my mom's 75th birthday. I do have a picture of the center. I don't think I shared it on here. I put 4 borders on it, so it should fit her bed.
I wanted a change of pace, so I drug out this little mini quilt that I made last year. I quilted it in a couple of evenings in front of the tv. (grin) It is now ready for binding.

Here is a shot of the back. The quilting shows up better.
Well, I guess that is enough for now. I'll be back in a couple of days for another post. Can't do them every day because my life is just not exciting enough for a daily post. LOL Oh well, I like boring. Thank you for visiting. Have a great day and come back again.
Of course, I wasn't sure she was serious, so I held my breath. Yep, she was still there the next day.

Of course we had to have a few squabbles. Yikes, she was mean at first. I got bitten when trying to mark her eggs. After that I wore gloves when I checked her. She was in one of the nest boxes, so of course the other hens just had to get up and lay beside her. Then she would steal their eggs. Well, that would have been quite a mess, so I marked a red mark on each of her eggs. Every day, I would put my gloves on, pick her up, and sit her to the side, then grab any eggs that did not have a red mark on them. LOL It became a routine for us, and she eventually quit biting me. I think we are kind of friends now. (grin)

This week she hatched out 6 babies. Unfortunately, 3 of them did not make it, but the 3 that did are buzzing around like little bees when mama calls. Aren't they cute?

Here is most of the rest of the flock, thinking I have a treat for them. I did, some strawberry stems and corn meal for the babies to scratch in. LOL I have barred rock hens and buff orpington hens and roos. I sure hope these 3 babies are all pullets. The coons really cut our flock down last summer.

Ruby loved the strawberry stems and called the little ones over. I could sit and watch them all day.
I took this picture of the ducks a week or two ago. I wonder if any of them will go broody. I think that would be neat. I also wonder if they get as mean as a hen when they set. LOL
I had a khaki campbell hen duck come up missing a couple of weeks ago. I am sure hoping she is just setting on a nest somewhere, but I doubt it. I found no feathers or anything, so maybe.

Here is our old beagle. This is Thunder and she is 15 this spring. She still tries to chase rabbits, but doesn't last long any more.
Here is Sammy. He is such a sweet buck. I am still debating over whether to get another doe and try raising rabbits. Actually just getting the manure from Sammy for the garden has made him pay for himself. LOL I think I would like to get a New Zealand doe.
Well, that is enough for now. I was inspired by Paula's post today to take some pictures of my own to share. Also Bren encouraged me to post, so I figured I might as well. I really would like to get into the habit of posting regularly again, but I have said that before. LOL I will be back to share a story about making coconut flour and some hand work. I just don't seem to be in the mood for blogging any more. Haven't been much in the mood for sewing either. I did get mom's Carpenter's Square pieced and have made good progress on hand quilting the center. I hope to have it done by the end of the month, but that will depend on how much gardening I get to do. It has been a very cold spring here so far. We planted potatoes, onions, peas, lettuce, turnips, spinach, kale, and radishes on March 19th. Then we got several inches of snow on the garden. So far, nothing is up. I am just hoping the seeds haven't rotted. Of course no asparagus is up yet either, so the soil may just be too cool.

I caught up with the Back to Square One Medallion Mystery during the first week of March. That is a very good thing, because I then took the flu or some sort of virus. I was really sick with a temperature of 102.4 off and on for 2 weeks. I have not coughed so much in a long time. My stomach got sore from all the coughing. I spent most of those two weeks in bed. I just wanted someone to put me out of my misery. LOL I always hurt all over when I have a fever. Thankfully, I am ok now. Of course once I was feeling better, I just had to push it and ate a sandwich. I know I can't eat gluten, but I did it anyway. For four days my knees hurt so bad that I could not bend them without catching my breathe. It finally got my attention. I must eat gluten free. Kevin found a gluten free bread recipe on the net for me. It isn't too bad. I said he found it on the net. That isn't quite right. LOL It is in a recipe book he purchased for his Kindle. I then purchased it for my Kindle. I think it only cost me about $1.28. It is called 'You Can Eat This: 22 Gluten Free Comfort Recipes' by Tam Linsey. I haven't tried any of her other recipes, but the bread is a winner.

We are hoping spring has finally sprung. I have cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts that desperately need to go into the garden. I am going to start hardening them off today. I only have room for 2 trays of plants under the light, so my tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant have been put on hold. I hope to get them planted today. I'll just sit the cold hardy plants on the counter at night for now. I got my hair cut last week. Then I gave Kevin a nice short haircut on Saturday and he cut Buddy's hair. Our poor little Pom gets way too hot with all that hair. He looks kind of pitiful right now, but his hair will grow out. LOL So we are all styling for spring. (grin)

Here is the center of my Back to Square One Medallion Mystery Quilt....
Here is the paper with scraps to show the fabric I am using....
I thought this might show the colors a little better. I am liking it.

This is the first quilt I have ever made with all solids. The colors aren't quite true on the computer screen. My background is a light yellow. Then I am using dark and light purple, dark and light olive green, and a royal blue. Now I am ready for April's section.

Well, I guess this is enough for today. Thank you for visiting. Please come again. Have a wonderful day.
ClueJust this week I got my fabric cut and pieced for the first clue of this mystery quilt. Good thing, cause Judy posted the 2nd clue today. Here are the first clue pieces.

The colors aren't quite right in this picture. The background is a pale yellow. The color that looks like dark blue is really a deep purple. This is the first quilt that I have ever made out of all solids. Having fun with it.
I am going to try to link to Judy's Linky box. You can go there and see lots of other pieces.
I am still not done with 2012's BOMs. LOL I guess I should just leave the computer off during January so I am not tempted. LOL I had decided that I would just do 2 this year. Hmmm, so far I am up to five. Oh well, at least most of them are just once a month. Surely I can get my blocks done and move on to the other things I need to do. They all have links over on my sidebar if you are interested in any of them.

Let's see, I really should be working on a small tote bag for Miss Ava Beth. Her birthday is the 17th. She is a huge fan of the Jayhawks. I bought Jayhawk fabric to make this for her, so I really need to get it done since I also have to mail it. I'm just not feeling bags at the moment. LOL

I also decided that I wanted to do some counted cross stitch bookmarks this year for some friends. Hmm well, I bought a book on counted cross stitch bookmark designs. Does that count?
I also just received the book and needles I ordered for learning to knit socks. I have put that on hold for a couple of weeks, till I can get caught up with some other stuff.
Do you see my sweet Buddy's little head above the yarn? (grin)

I am almost done with the hand quilting on my Raggedy Annie and Friend's quilt. I am on the last block, then just have a 3 1/2 inch border to do a simple design on and the binding. Then this quilt will be done.

If I have any intentions of getting the Carpenter's Star quilt done for mom's 75th birthday, I really need to get with it. Also would like to get started on a quilt for my niece who is getting married in October. I have considered using the quilt along quilt for that. If I pick the right colors, it could work.

Also, I just started a new 3 week diet to see what food allergies I might have. Kevin bought JJ Virgin's book, The Virgin Diet, just before Christmas. I finally got around to reading it and decided to give this a shot. So for 3 weeks I will eat no soy, corn, peanuts, eggs, dairy, gluten, or sugar/sugar substitutes. After 3 weeks, I am supposed to add them back to my diet, one at a time and see how my body reacts. I won't lie. This has been a struggle. I have had trouble even eating 1000 calories daily on this diet. Mainly because I am eating so much fiber, it fills me. Today is better, because I started eating every 2-3 hours. I am already up to almost 8oo calories. I still have supper, and maybe even an evening snack. Wish me luck. Three weeks is not that long. I only have 17 days left. Yea!
I lost one of my cousins in June. Dave was only 53. He died of heart failure. I miss him. He was such a good man. He never married or had a family of his own, but everyone in our small town loved him.

We also lost Midget, our old Norwegian Elkhound. He was 14 years old. such a good old boy. He was always my shadow. I cried all day the day we lost him. I still miss him. Rest in peace old boy.
We lost both of my female rabbits. Sassy and Sara were both due to have babies when the terrible heat wave hit. I did everything I could think of, but I couldn't save them. Now Sammy is a pet. I just haven't had the heart to get any more rabbits. I guess raising rabbits isn't for me. Sam will just be my pet.

We had a terrible problem with coons getting our chickens. They were literally tearing our chicken house roof off and pulling the chickens off the roost. We spent a couple of weeks stalking the chicken house during the night. Even bought a baby monitor and put it in the coop. We finally had to put tin down over the shingles of the roof to keep the coons out. We lost 3 roosters and 3 pullets before we got this stopped. Didn't lose any ducks. I guess they are too noisy. So now I have 8 hens, 2 roosters, 2 drakes, and 7 duck hens. We bought waterers that I plug in to keep the water from freezing. Choring in the winter is not easy.

So as you can see, 2012 was not kind to us. I am hoping and praying for a much better 2013! I have made some goals that I hope to reach this coming year. Of course, not all of 2012 was bad. I decided at the end of Sept. that I had to lose some weight and start getting healthy. Since then, I have lost almost 20 lbs. I have been exercising and feel much better. The holidays have been rough, but I actually have done better this year than ever before, on not eating lots of junk. LOL Kevin joined me on the weight loss journey. He has lost over 40 lbs. Yeah, I know! Guys lose faster that girls. Not really fair, is it. LOL
Do you ever do that? I want to make a Carpenter's Star quilt for mom for her birthday next May. I know I need to get that started. I have pulled the fabric. Does that count? LOL
I recently won a Bento Box pattern and I'm itching to start on that. I bought a bunch of fat quarters at Joann's last weekend to add to my collection. I actually went back the next day to get a pair of Gingher scissors and bought about 12 more lighter colored fq. (grin)
I also picked up these fabrics, the fabric that looks like boards for my future 'When Nature Calls' quilt, and the butterflies because I thought it was beautiful. I just couldn't resist it.
I would love to get the top done on my Trip around the World quilt. I have a big tote bin of flimsies just waiting to be quilted. I need to create a pattern for a quilt for my niece for her wedding Oct. 2013. I have numerous BOMs in the works. EEEHHHH! It is all getting so overwhelming. LOL So what do I do? I pull a panel that I won a couple of years ago, played around in EQ7, till I came up with a pleasing design to add to the panel, and got it all cut out. It is sitting here waiting on me to quit playing on the computer and get to sewing on it. LOL I haven't taken any pictures of the panel yet. I will when I get the blocks sewn around it. Quilting is what I do for fun, so why get all stressed about it? I have decided to just work on what I feel like working on, whenever the urge hits me. LOL

So, how did you like this whole rambling post about nothing really? LOL Thanks for visiting. Please come again. Have a great day.
I usually use simple designs and just go with what feels right. Then I hand quilt them just as simply. I finished hand quilting this little quilt last week. I really love how it turned out. I sent it to a sweet friend and she loved it as well.
I found this cute star fabric for the binding. I used an iron on label from a book I have. Then I embroidered over the lines. I love the way the label turned out. Here is the back.
I don't normally do a lot of hand quilting during the summer because it is so hot with a quilt in my lap, but I was missing it. I did ok with this little quilt in my lap. It was good to get back to it. Now I can hardly wait till fall when I can get back to doing what I love. LOL

Last week, I did some cleaning and after taking quite some time to get the printer/scanner/copier clean, decided it needed a cover. So I found a piece of fabric, took some measurements, cut out the squares on the corners, and sewed it up. It fits perfectly.

Afterwards, I found some 2 1/2" squares and decided to just play with them. I made 4 patches, then sewed them together. I used the leftover fabric from the printer cover for the borders.
I still had a few scraps left, so I sewed until they were all used up, then added muslin to make a backing for it. I think I am going to machine quilt it for Buddy. He likes to lay on our bed. So I can put this down for him to lay on.
Well, I guess this will do for today. I won a Bento Box pattern last week. I bought a bunch more fat quarters at Joann's over the weekend and want to get started cutting it out. Thanks for visiting. Have a great day.
We have raised 5 children and still love each other. It think that is something to be proud of. Kevin does not like to have his picture taken or posted online, so I will respect his wishes. He had to work today, so no plans. I did send him a Snickers bar in his lunch with a little love note wrapped around it. (grin) Maybe we will do something this weekend.

I finished the July block for the Aurifil Designer BOM. It is called Colors of Summer by Sarah Fielke. I even figured out how to do a Colonial knot to represent the grains of sand.

I am doing the Temecula summer quilt along. I am using a bundle of 5 fat quarters. This is kind of fun. It will be a small wall hanging when done. I think a new block is posted every Friday through August. I still have to do block 3 because block 4 will be out on Friday.

Please excuse my ironing board cover. I am in dire need of replacing it. LOL

Look Bren, what I found at Walmart. It is a lap desk. I am loving it. I use it when I embroider and when I am quilting on a small wall quilt. It is so nice to use when sitting in my rocker.

Before I forget, this is Thimbleberries Day. I have not done very well with this for the past few months. It seems like there is always something going on at the last of the month. I am still working on Sunflower Glory.

I am making some headway. It will eventually get done. LOL I am thinking about doing a hand applique around the sunflower. I can't remember if I used wonder under or heat 'n' bond lite. If the heat 'n' bond, I will have to machine applique it. That stuff is too tough to hand sew through. Anyway, here is where I am on this project.

I have also been working on my Borders and Promises BOM. Almost caught up with it. Yesterday I worked on my Farmers Wife blocks. I am doing the Barristers Block Sew Along. Randy has given us a break till August, so I figured I'd try to catch up. Why am I always behind? LOL

Isaiah stopped by for a while. I always love to see my kids. Even if it is only for an hour or so. I was able to catch up with him.

Well, that is all for today. Thanks for visiting. Please come again. Have a wonderful evening. I'm praying for rain. We have some in the area, so I hope we get some.
Our whole state is in a drought condition and it is so hot here. It has been 107* for highs for the past couple of days. Tomorrow is town day. I am hoping to get my groceries and get home before the heat gets hideous.

Since it has been so hot, I have spent my time sitting in the a/c doing some embroidery. I finished the June block for Thoughts in Threads and have the July block prepped and ready to work on. Since I am behind on my Promises and Borders, I have been working on it.
Here is block 6 of Thoughts and Threads....
While cruising around the net, I found a free block of the month stitchery. It is Aurifil's Desighner BOM and hosted by Pat Sloan. Hmmm, since I had won some Aurifil saize 12 thread, I decided to give it a go. Oh my goodness, this thread embroiders like a dream. I am loving it. Of course, I don't have quite all the colors I need, so I use my DMC to fill it. I will share my blocks so far. Sorry, I didn't look up the links, but you can google. (grin)
I have July's block done but guess I haven't uploaded it yet. I am using a charm pack of Urban Cowgirl by Urban Chicks for Moda for the sashings. Cyndi sent this to me for my birthday. I am having so much fun stitching these blocks.

Well, I need to run out real quick and do my evening chores. I try to wait till it drops below 100* before going out. I also need to get my grocery list ready for tomorrow. So I'll get this posted. Thanks for visiting. Have a great night.
They are saying we have not had temps in the 100s in June since 1988. Well, we have had several this year. I believe it is right at 106* right now. Way too hot for me. The heat with the little amount of rain we have had is going to do in the garden, I am afraid. I have been spending my days sitting in the a/c doing some embroidery. It is too hot to have a quilt in my lap.

I joined a Handmade gift exchange this month. I sent my gift off to my giftee last weekend, so I am hoping she has received it by now. Anyway, I figured I'd share it with you all. I found the pattern for this little wall quilt in the Summer 2011 copy of Fons and Porter's Easy Quilts. It is called Tweet Others with Kindness by Kelly Mueller. I think it turned out pretty cute.
